Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the death of a woman whose body was found in Mitchell.

Anthony Harris, 57, of Detroit, Michigan is charged with second-degree murder, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley.

This comes after a body was found Monday at a convenience store along I-90 in Mitchell. Jackley identified the victim as Melody Gooch, 50, also of Detroit.

“South Dakota’s Division of Criminal Investigation and Mitchell law enforcement have been working to notify Melody’s family members, collect evidence, and analyze security videos, and we have now arrested a suspect identified as Anthony Harris,” Jackley said. “This has been a cooperative effort between many different local and state agencies.”

Harris was arrested in Washington State.

Investigators are asking anyone who knows Gooch or may have seen her in the area between March 9 and March 11 to contact Mitchell police at (605) 995-8400.
