The treasurer for a memorial foundation dedicated to two sisters killed in a car accident has been arrested for embezzlement.

Nicholas Kleven, 45, is accused of stealing $14,000 from the Loban Memorial Foundation between 2016 and 2019.

Brookings police said seven years’ worth of bank records from the foundation were analyzed during the investigation.

The foundation hosts an annual golf tournament fundraiser which paid scholarships to first-year college students in the area.
