The final report of the state's indigent legal services task force has been issued. This comes after the task force adopted the report late last month.
Indigent defense is the legal term for people who lack the funds to pay for their own legal representation.
In the report, the board recommended the creation of a statewide indigent defense commission and public defender office at an estimated cost of $1.5 million.
Cost-containment measures and a contracted review of counties with the Sixth Amendment Center are also in the recommendations.
The finalized report, which can be found here, will be issued to lawmakers in the upcoming legislative session.
