Authorities have made an arrest following a homicide in northeast South Dakota.

Joseph Bendel, 33, is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to the attorney general’s office.

Investigators said Bendel attacked another man at a rural Grant County home Sunday evening. The victim, who authorities identified as a 34-year-old man, was taken to a hospital where he died the next day.

No other details about the incident have been released.

Bendel is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

“We appreciate the work and cooperation of local law enforcement in apprehending this suspect,” said Attorney General Marty Jackley. “The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and DCI will continue their due diligence in conducting this further investigation.”
