Highway patrol planning 20 sobriety checkpoints in July

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is planning on setting up 20 sobriety checkpoints across 19 counties during the month of July.

The monthly checkpoints are designed to encourage people to not drink and drive, according to a press release from the department. The Highway Patrol conducts the checkpoints with the help of local law enforcement agencies.

Checkpoints are scheduled for the counties of Beadle, Brookings, Brown, Brule, Charles Mix, Codington, Hughes, Jackson, Kingsbury, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Stanley and Yankton.
