The Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an inmate death at Minnehaha County Jail.

The sheriff's office said on June 7 at approximately 2 p.m., jail staff found the 41-year-old Minnesota woman unresponsive in her cell during a routine cell check. The woman had been booked in the jail that morning on DWI and drug-related charges.

Paramedics and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue attempted life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful.

No foul play is suspected. The county coroner has yet to determine a cause of death.

Jail warden Michael Mattson said a Division of Criminal Investigation review is routine in this type of incident.
