The Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead in Rapid City.

It happened Tuesday at a home near the School of Mines.

Police said officers were called to remove two men who were refusing to leave the home and were in violation of a no-contact order.

One of the men ran from the scene. The police said they gave chase and told the man he was under arrest.

"As one of the officers came around a corner of a residence, he noticed the male holding a gun, pointing it at the residence itself. And when the officer came around the corner the individual pointed the gun at the police officer. The officer fired at the suspect after telling him to drop the gun," said Don Hedrick, Chief Of Police at Rapid City Police Department.

The other man then exited the home with injuries. It’s unclear how he received them.

The DCI said one of the suspects later died from their wounds. They didn’t say which man died.

No officers were hurt.

The Attorney General’s office is investigating, which is standard for any officer-involved shooting.
