Siouxland Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)
Teens Encounter Christ is a fun filled retreat type weekend for teens! Teens lead these TEC weekend with guidance and support from adults. Teens will see and feel the power of prayer, meet new friends, feel God's love for them, listen to and sing christian music, and grow in their faith in God. Teens will hear testimonies from their peers of how they have struggled and how God has helped them through those struggles. TEC weekends are life changing for those teens that attend. TEC is for high school students until they are 1 year post high school.Teens Encounter Christ is interdenominational. Siouxland TEC is held 3 times a year hosted by local churches in Yankton, SD and Sioux City, IA.

Join us for the Lead Community Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 31, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center! Sponsored by SURF, this event offers a fun and safe way for families in the Lead area to celebrate Halloween. This year's event also includes Dark Matter Day activities!
Join the Halloween fun by handing out candy, decorating your vehicles, and/or dressing up in costumes! If you're interested in hosting a vehicle station, please fill out the form at https://www.jotform.com/222547019278965. Vehicle stations should be set up by 4:00 p.m. and remain active until 6:30 p.m. Please plan on bringing enough candy for 300 children.
In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors.

The University Libraries at the University of South Dakota is presenting its biennial international altered book exhibition “Bound and Unbound VIII,” juried by Bratislava, Slovakia-based altered book artist and illustrator, Isobelle Ouzman, now through Jan. 5, 2026.
“Bound and Unbound VIII” is located in the exhibition cases on the second floor of the I.D. Weeks Library. It is open to the public for viewing during library operating hours, which can be found online. Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the National Music Museum and the Institute of American Indian Studies at the University of South Dakota on Saturday, November 1, with a morning of storytelling, music, and dance featuring Lakota elder Jerome Kills Small (Sisoka Luta) and the Sungmanitu Oyate drum group and dancers. Kills Small will lead Music Storytime for Kids at 10:30 a.m., an adult storytelling and drum program at 11:30 a.m., followed by an outdoor performance at 12:15 p.m. Sungmanitu Oyate drum group and dancers. A light lunch will be provided for attendees. Visitors can also explore Native American instruments in the galleries, including recent acquisitions supported by the Clayton & Odessa Lang Ofstad Foundation.
Come to the Cultural Heritage Center and create your own holiday ornament. All supplies and instructions are provided. Refreshments will be served. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Come kick off the holiday season!

Rare Jefferson Peace Medal Exhibit at Mead Museum
An original 220-year old Jefferson Peace Medal on loan to the Mead Museum is on display as part of the Journeying Forward: Connecting Cultures exhibit. The 4-inch Jefferson Peace Medal is extremely rare and a historically significant artifact from the early 19th century. The peace medals were commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson as part of diplomatic efforts with Native American tribes, serving as symbols of goodwill and alliance between the U.S. government and Indigenous leaders. The Lewis & Clark Expedition handed out 89 of them to leaders of Native Nations on their journey between 1804-1806. This medal is one of less than 5 on display in the world!In addition to the peace medal, the Journeying Forward exhibit also had an upgrade in its history of the Ihanktonwan and Oceti Sakowin Nations, an important narrative to Yankton regional history.The Mead Museum is located at 82 Mickelson Dr in Yankton SD. The Museum is open weekdays 10AM to 5PM and on Saturdays/Sundays from 1PM to 5PM.
