Humbletown is a powerful ensemble from throughout the Midwest, with original songs inspired by their home and travels, intricately performed on clawhammer banjo, flatpick guitar, mandolin, and upright bass. With music that combines influences of bluegrass, old time, hot club swing, Americana, and classic country, Humbletown will take you on a musical journey that stretches across time and space.
Their 2022 debut album “The Path I Chose to Walk” received international acclaim. Americana UK’s review described the album: “The first impression on listening to these songs around virtuosos on clawhammer banjo and flat-picking guitar is that this entire collection must have been something discovered nearly a century ago by the great ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax.” Their album’s title track video “Vines” was premiered by Bluegrass Situation and Americana Highways described their album as “A little old-time country, folk & bluegrass. The musicianship is stellar, with fingerpicking on acoustic guitar & banjo. The mix of male & female vocals balances the material impressively.”

Rare Jefferson Peace Medal Exhibit at Mead Museum
An original 220-year old Jefferson Peace Medal on loan to the Mead Museum is on display as part of the Journeying Forward: Connecting Cultures exhibit. The 4-inch Jefferson Peace Medal is extremely rare and a historically significant artifact from the early 19th century. The peace medals were commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson as part of diplomatic efforts with Native American tribes, serving as symbols of goodwill and alliance between the U.S. government and Indigenous leaders. The Lewis & Clark Expedition handed out 89 of them to leaders of Native Nations on their journey between 1804-1806. This medal is one of less than 5 on display in the world! In addition to the peace medal, the Journeying Forward exhibit also had an upgrade in its history of the Ihanktonwan and Oceti Sakowin Nations, an important narrative to Yankton regional history. The Mead Museum is located at 82 Mickelson Dr in Yankton SD. The Museum is open weekdays 10AM to 5PM and on Saturdays/Sundays from 1PM to 5PM.
Join us for performance with the Heartland Marimba Quartet, one of today’s leading ensembles dedicated to expanding and elevating the classical marimba art form. Since its founding in 2016, HMQ has toured widely across the country and internationally, presenting virtuosic, imaginative programs that spotlight American composers and new works from artists around the world.
The quartet’s recent accomplishments include guest-artist performances at the 2022 World Marimba Competition in Stuttgart, concerto appearances with multiple symphony orchestras, and concerts at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. They have premiered major new works—such as Kevin Romanski’s Concerto for Marimba Quartet and Orchestra—and served as headline artists at the 2023 Crossroads Music Festival.
HMQ is also a leader in advancing new music. With support from New Music USA, the ensemble established the New Quartets Project Consortium, commissioning works from six celebrated women composers. Many of these compositions, along with other repertoire the group tours with, are published by HM Publications.
Experience the marimba as you’ve never heard it—dynamic, expressive, and full of color.

Black Hills Community Theatre starts the New Year with love and laughs in the frisky comedy for adults Calendar Girls by Tim Firth. After spending time at the local hospital, Annie and her best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee for the waiting room. With the help of four fellow Women's Institute members, they decide to be bold and pose nude for an "alternative calendar". The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. This humorous, yet poignant, story is based on the 2003 movie of the same name.
The cast of local actors is led by Paula Kennison and Shannon Truax as best friends Chris and Annie, who are joined by fellow “Calendar Girls” Carmen Rosendahl, Connie Hubbard, Cierra Melum and Tina Samuelsen Bauer. The rest of the cast includes Lynne Mazzone, Paul Wishard, Bart Pfankuch, Tyler Mathieson, Dillon Burton, Rachel Lindsay, Mary Stein, Lucille Breksy and Heidi Dehn. This production contains mild language and adult content.
