Bring your lawn chair or blanket this summer for our adventure begins at the library, color-themed Story Time! In partnership with 4H members, we will have some special animal guests joining us for story time in June and July. Story Time will be held in our outdoor area or inside depending on the weather.
This program focuses on preschool-age children, but all ages are welcome. No registration required and caregivers are required to attend.
June 4th – July 30th – 10:00AM. No program on July 2nd.

Come to the Sturgis Public Library on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 11am for PreK Storytime for ages 3-6. Celebrate literacy with movement, stories and crafts every Wednesday with Miss Sierra.

Rare Jefferson Peace Medal Exhibit at Mead Museum

An original 220-year old Jefferson Peace Medal on loan to the Mead Museum is on display as part of the Journeying Forward: Connecting Cultures exhibit. The 4-inch Jefferson Peace Medal is extremely rare and a historically significant artifact from the early 19th century.
The peace medals were commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson as part of diplomatic efforts with Native American tribes, serving as symbols of goodwill and alliance between the U.S. government and Indigenous leaders. The Lewis & Clark Expedition handed out 89 of them to leaders of Native Nations on their journey between 1804-1806. This medal is one of less than 5 on display in the world!
In addition to the peace medal, the Journeying Forward exhibit also had an upgrade in its history of the Ihanktonwan and Oceti Sakowin Nations, an important narrative to Yankton regional history.
The Mead Museum is located at 82 Mickelson Dr in Yankton SD. The Museum is open weekdays 10AM to 5PM and on Saturdays/Sundays from 1PM to 5PM.

The Rapid City Municipal Band presents free outdoor band concerts at the Memorial Park Bandshell. Grab a lawn chair and join us for an evening of music in the park.

Since its founding in 2005, Artists of the Black Hills has united professional artists, artisans, and galleries to promote the Black Hills as a premier arts destination. The organization showcases a wide array of talented artists, many of whom are recognized both regionally and nationally for their contributions to the arts. The opening reception on June 20 gives a unique opportunity for the public to engage with these artists and celebrate their creative achievements.

This exhibition is broad in scope and ambitious in vision. Artwork will include paintings, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewelry, collage, assemblage, and more. A wide variety of media highlights the unique approach of each artist. The exhibit represents distinct artistic approaches sparking creative thinking and long impressions.

Each member of ABH has been juried into the organization by a selection committee composed of fellow artists. The goal has always been to highlight the vast artistic talent in the Black Hills region and the significant role art plays in enhancing our quality of life in this area.

Tim Peterson, plein air painter and ABH member, adds, "We are thrilled to present this final exhibition at the Dahl, a cornerstone of the downtown Rapid City arts community and a leading gallery in South Dakota and the region. Hosting this show during the busy summer season ensures that both residents and visitors can experience the breadth of artistic excellence ABH has fostered over the past twenty years."

The Lead Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the 2025 Gold Camp Jubilee on July 3rd and 4th, 2025.

In 1926 Homestake Mining Company threw a party to celebrate 50 years of mining called the Golden Jubilee. In memory of that amazing event, the Lead Chamber of Commerce now organizes the Gold Camp Jubilee. This festival celebrates Lead's iconic golden history of mining and amazing community.

The Gold Camp Jubilee is a two-day event featuring vendors, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, music, food, history, events, and the small-town charm of Lead's historic Main Street. Attendees can also view an impressive fireworks show over the Lead Open Cut with powerful echoes and booms.

Festivities will kick off on Thursday, July 3, with activities including a Pickleball Tournament, Gold Rush Cruisin' Classics Car Show & Parade, a Free Community Hot Dog Feed, live music and more. The fun continues on Friday, July 4th with a pancake feed, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, beer garden, bounce houses, carnival games, watermelon eating contest, skate scoot and bike competition, community dinner, and the Open Cut Fireworks Show. Tickets can also be purchased for the VIP Fireworks Viewing party at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center featuring heavy appetizers, live music and entertainment, indoor and outdoor seating options, and access to the observation deck.
