Event Description

Shelby Meyer art

The School of Design presents the first Ritz Gallery exhibit of 2021 with an alumna exhibit! Recent BFA graduate Shelby Meyer will share print media and sculptural ceramic works in Mirrored Contrast, on view from Jan. 11–Jan. 29th, 2021. Shelby is one of three students whose BFA Thesis Exhibit was cancelled this past spring due to the pandemic. Shelby Meyer is an artist and educator living and working in Brookings, SD and received a BFA in Studio Art from South Dakota State University with specialties in Printmaking, Ceramics and Art Education in 2020. She creates imagery inspired by the human body, drawing from life and imagination to illustrate different perspectives and stereotypes that either reinforce or contradict the human experience. Distorting the body creates a juxtaposition between what is seen and what is felt, mimicking the tension that comes with being a young woman in today’s society. Please note the mask and social distancing requirements on campus when visiting this exhibit. South Dakota State University requires face coverings in all public indoor spaces on campus (Level 3) until further notice. Exceptions to the policy can be found here: https://www.sdstate.edu/jacksrback/face-covering-protocol The Ritz Gallery is located in Grove Hall on the South Dakota State University campus in Brookings, SD. Additional online content will be shared throughout the month in lieu of a public reception. For additional information, please contact the School of Design at (605) 688-4103 or sdsu.schoolofdesign@sdstate.edu. https://www.sdstate.edu/school-design
