Dakota Midday: A Good Time for Vinyl Records
Last year was another bad one for the music industry. Sales of compact discs and digital albums fell for another year as more music fans consumed music through on-demand streaming services. But the sales of vinyl records - which seemed like a dead format after the introduction of the CD - grew by 52 percent in 2014.
Billboard magazine reports that 57 percent of all vinyl albums purchased last year came from independent record stores. Michael Calabrese, co-owner of Black Hills Vinyl in Rapid City; and Dan Nissen, co-owner of Total Drag in Sioux Falls, joined Dakota Midday and discussed the resurgence of vinyl records.
