Lakota people looking for an alternative to the sports events that are the primary source of entertainment on Pine Ridge now have a second choice. The village of Kyle is home to the reservation’s first movie theatre.
Angel Reddest has wanted to own a movie theatre for as long as she can remember.
Her dream came true last Friday when the Nunpa Theatre opened its doors to 135 patrons. On the theatre’s two screens were “Pitch Perfect” and “Paranormal Activity 4”.
Reddest says she’s happy to offer her people a nice place to spend an evening.
“Families can come together as a family and enjoy something together,” Reddest explains. “We see a lot of grandmas and grandkids and we saw mothers and sons come. It’s...it’s really nice for our community for the families to be able to do something together.”
Funding for the theatre came from the South Dakota Office of Economic Development.
Angel Reddest is using Facebook as an advertising tool for the Nunpa Theatre.
Besides competitive prices, the theatre’s concession stand offers everything from soda and popcorn to cold sandwiches and Nathan’s hot dogs.
If that wasn’t enough, says Reddest, it’s 90 miles closer than driving to Rapid City to see a movie.
