Corn, soybean planting wrapping up

South Dakota’s planting season is wrapping up.

The USDA’s latest crop report shows 97 percent of the state’s corn and 88 percent of soybeans are planted - both slightly ahead of the five-year average rate.

Over 80 percent of both crops are rated in either “good” or “excellent” condition.

Meantime, the state’s sunflower crop, which has a later planting season than other grains, is just over half complete. The USDA report said that’s right at the average pace.
