AAA expects this year to close with the second-busiest holiday travel season on record.
In South Dakota, around 372,000 people are expected to leave home before year’s end.
While most travelers are forecasted to drive, more than 16,000 South Dakotans are taking to the skies to get to their festivities.
AAA warns that with more people choosing air travel, last-minute seats and deals on flights are going to be scarce.
The organization also projects that travel times will be busiest in the afternoons between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
