The City of Sioux Falls commissioned an update to Augastana’s 2021 comprehensive housing need assessment.

Among the needs reported were housing deficits for both renters and owners.

For renters, there is a major shortage of low-income studio and one-bedroom units affordable at 30 percent of less of the area median income.

For owners and higher income levels, the market is mixed with deficits in some categories but notable surpluses in others.

Over the next five years, local household needs are expected to increase by just over one percent, or about 1,100 households per year.

The full report can be read online here.
