Retail and hospitality are key tenants of the all-important tourism industry, and now new opportunities are here for business students.

The South Dakota Retailers Association is awarding scholarships  in amounts up to $3,500 yearly. Since the early 1990s, the organization has awarded nearly a quarter-million dollars to 275 recipients.

The Retailer’s Association is offering the scholarships to students studying to own, manage, or work in business fields. Eligible applicants must attend a South Dakota university, technical college or trade school.

Nathan Sanderson, association executive director, said the state needs more business minds.

“Every community in South Dakota is eager to attract people who want careers in retail, hospitality and trade businesses," Sanderson said. "Our scholarship program can help launch those individuals on a rewarding career path. Investing a few minutes to apply could result in a scholarship award of $2,000 or more.”
