Gas prices down slightly in South Dakota

The cost of gas in South Dakota is down slightly, though it remains close to the summer peak.

The state’s average price is down three cents to $3.71 per gallon, according to the latest survey from GasBuddy. That’s 27 cents higher than last month, and about nine cents lower than this time last year.

Nationwide, the average price of a gallon of gas is unchanged at $3.82. The national average for diesel rose two cents to $4.29.

"With California facing a deluge of water from Tropical Storm Hilary, some level of refinery problems that could impact gasoline prices could arise, and with eyes on a more active Atlantic, the next few weeks will bring additional volatility to what motorists can expect at the pump,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
