Sioux Falls nonprofit Furniture Mission will receive a $1 million donation. The organization provides furniture and household items to people and families in need.

Janean Michalov is the executive director of Furniture Mission and said the money will be put toward a new woodworking shop.

“That will be a mentorship program in our new building, kind of teaching youth and young adults about carpentry and hoping to kind of create the next generation of volunteers,” she said.

Michalov added that having good furniture in homes is more important than some people realize.

“We know that children specifically are more successful in their school day when they've had a good night's rest in a bed. And that they're also more successful when they're eating dinner family style at a kitchen table," she said. "And so our goal, in making a house a home, is to be able to provide that to a family at no cost to the family — families in transition that are coming out of homelessness, or in any sort of transition that would have a furniture need.”

The donation comes from the Seed for Success Foundation —  a Sioux Falls-based philanthropic organization.
