Time to open a business in South Dakota

Chris Laughery

The interview posted above is from SDPB's daily public affairs show, In the Moment with Lori Walsh.

Jamie Wood is the district director in the South Dakota District Office of the U.S. Small Business Adminstration.

It’s National Small Business Week. There are nearly 90,000 small businesses in South Dakota.  Jamie Wood is the district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration.  She says it may not seem like the time to start a new business but perhaps it is.

“There’s a few reasons why, we do have high interest from consumers, they want goods and services, “said Wood.” We have a great business environment in South Dakota, so it appeals to people in the state and outside of the state to come here for a lot of different reasons.”

Each business is unique, but they all serve the same purpose, to bolster the state's economy. Woods says during the pandemic many people decided to stop working for somebody else and start working for themselves.
