The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding more than $83 million in grants to 74 tribal communities to prevent, prepare and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding comes from the Indian Community Block Grant-American Rescue Plan. This is the third round of funding offered to tribes under the plan.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe is receiving $3.4 million to replace infrastructure equipment that will give 30 homes access to the tribe’s water supply. The tribe will also use the funding to rehabilitate up to 100 housing units.

The American Rescue Plan included a total of $280 million to tribes for the Indian Community Development Block Grant program.
