Today is the last day to submit a medical cannabis dispensary application in Sioux Falls, and 25 entities have applied so far.

Five licenses are available and will be chosen randomly Wednesday by a lottery.

Stacy Kooistra is the Sioux Falls city attorney.

“What we'll do is we will use a randomizer type process largely similar to a bingo process or what you see in other lotteries and drafts," he said.

Kooistra said the application fee is $25,000 and the licensing fee is $50,000.

Thestate has been slow to roll out rules and regulations for medical marijuana after voters approved medicinal and recreational pot one year ago this month. The fate of recreational marijuana is still unknown, because it's tied up in litigation.

The lottery for Sioux Falls dispensary licenses is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sioux Falls City Hall. It is open to the public.
