Celebrating the Kunama culture

Faytiga

This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

Sioux Falls is home to a large Kunama population. In fact, it's the biggest Kunama community in the United States, according to community activist Moses Idris.

The Kunama people have come from Eritrea and Ethiopia to escape civil war.

This weekend, Kunama music, dancing and a fashion show will mark the third annual celebration of culture.

The Kunama Cultural Festival takes place Saturday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at Levitt at the Falls.

Idris is co-founder of local nonprofit organization Kobabala Farda Kunamasi and planner of the festival.

He joined "In the Moment" for a preview of the upcoming event.
