Calista Rose Ochoa's submission for Doodle for Google contest

Google chose Calista Rose Ochoa as South Dakota's winners of its Doodle-for-Google contest.

The theme of the contest was “My wish for the next 25 years” in celebration of Google’s 25th anniversary.

“My wish for the next 25 years is to become a teacher," said Ochoa. "I made this picture because I love the thought of being able to be surrounded by all these little kids and also being able to teach so many new brains.”

Google chose the Spearfish Creekside Elementary student out of of thousands of submissions. Google sent each of the 55 students Google hardware and swag and held celebrations to showcase their artwork.

“We were amazed by the submissions we received,” said Doodle Product Marketing Manager Selly Sallah. “Across ages, students showcased their visions for the future in thoughtful and unique ways. Young artists shared a range of things they wished for in the next 25 years including safer communities, technological breakthroughs, a cleaner planet, and greater unity among people. Given the challenging nature of the past few years, we were really inspired to see the many ways students have been facing the opportunities and challenges that the future brings.”

All 55 state and regional winners will advance to the national contest where Google will choose five finalists. The winner receives a $55,000 scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for their school or a nonprofit organization of their choice.
