South Dakota Poetry Out Loud champion Grace Powell

South Dakota has a new Poetry Out Loud state champion.

Grace Powell is a senior at Dakota Valley High School in North Sioux City, SD. She recently won the state Poetry Out Loud competition and will advance to nationals.

She joined "In the Moment" to share her experience with spoken word and share her performance. She reads "The Gamble" by Laura Hershey.

Powell heads to the national stage Wednesday, May 1 in Washington, D.C.. She is scheduled to compete in the 5 p.m. EDT time block (4 p.m. CDT / 3 p.m. MDT).

Both days of competition will stream through a live, one-time-only webcast at arts.gov/Poetry-Out-Loud.
