'Running the Milky Way': A new Lakota art & music collaboration

Scott Simpson

This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

A new fusion of visual and auditory artistry is coming soon. The song was created from a collaboration between Oglala Lakota visual artist Sandy Swallow and musician and producer Scott Simpson.

"Running the Milky Way" is a mixed media piece celebrating Lakota beliefs and paying homage to the Horse Nation. Swallow said she was trying to answer this question: What would horses be doing up in heaven?

The new song is available across digital music platforms starting on Jan. 19.
