The conservation movement & 'Beloved Beasts'

This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

With the knowledge that animal species can go extinct came the birth of the conservation movement. Michelle Nijhuis explores the history of the movement from its missteps to its successes in her book "Beloved Beasts."

Nijhuis looks at what's lost with the extinction of a lumbering mammal on the plains or a bird from the skies or a tiny fish in the stream. And she tells the stories of the people who work to save them.

She stops by In the Moment during the South Dakota Festival of Books.
