This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

When author and journalist Chuck Raasch began researching the life of Corabelle Fellows, he said it made him ashamed of his profession. Raasch tells her story in "Life Painted Red."

Fellows moved from Washington, D.C., to the Nebraska and Dakota Territories. While there, she married a biracial Native American man. Her story would be played up and broadcasted across newspaper headlines all around the country.

Raasch joins In the Moment during the South Dakota Festival of Books to dive into the legacy of yellow journalism.
