The South Dakota State Poetry Society has forwarded their recommendation for a new poet laureate to Governor Kristi Noem's office.

According to state law, the poet laureate is appointed by the governor, but only after the poetry society has recommended a candidate. It's a non-political post. The state's first poet laureate was, famously, Badger Clark.

Dana Yost is interim president of the SDSPS. He joins us to explore the process of recommending the state's highest poetry post.

You can hear archival audio of Christine Stewart, poet laureate emeritus reading her poem "Wonder Woman Relaxes" HERE.
