Dessa has made a career as a renaissance women. Her music, poetry, and essays exhibit wit, fortitude, and candor. She attended the University of Minnesota where she received a B.A in Philosophy before becoming an artist full time.

She's contributed to the New York Times, National Geographic, and is featured on the Hamilton Mixtape with her track "Congratulations."

She's also the host of Deeply Human, a podcast created by the BBC and American Public Media.

Dessa has performed at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, and recorded with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra.

On July 7-8, she is in Sioux Falls gracing the Levitt Shell for Innoskate. On Thursday she performs 2 songs with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. On Friday she performs her own headlining set.
