This interview posted above is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

A University of South Dakota Student is in Mobile, Alabama, competing for a national scholarship.

Mackenzie Brady is representing South Dakota in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals.

Contestants are judged in the categories of scholastics, fitness, talent, and self-expression with the chance to receive a $150,000 cash scholarship. Brady says she's learning skills at the conference that she intends to bring back to USD, where she plans to study nursing.

"All of these activities and events that we get to do together with people from around the country will help me in the nursing field," says Brady, "I will get to work with people that I might not know or just not see every day and work efficiently together."

The Distinguished Young Women National Finals run June 23-25.
