May the Fourth: Growing up with Star Wars and why the franchise matters

This interview posted above is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

Today we recognize a holiday that crosses all borders (and sometimes boundaries).

May 4th is Star Wars Day. As in "May the Fourth Be With You."

Since the original film hit cinemas in 1977, the franchise has inspired generations and occasionally stirred up controversy among its fans. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, it began producing its own films, toys, and television shows.

SDPB's resident Star Wars expert Jackie Hendry joins Lori Walsh on In the Moment to explain what Star Wars means to her, how it shaped her childhood, and why Star Wars Day absolutely, positively matters.
