The South Dakota Shakespeare festival has announced the cast for its June production of Othello.

The play has resonated with audiences for centuries thanks in part to its themes of passion, jealousy and racial prejudice.

It tells the story of Othello, an African military commander and his wife, the beautiful and wealthy Desdemona. Working from the shadows is the deliciously evil villain Iago, who is determined to drive a wedge between them.

Othello will be directed by Tara Moses, a citizen of Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. She sets the play in 2176. in her version Othello is staged after a war to re-establish full sovereignty to Indian territory.

Cody Floyd is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama's BFA Acting program. He'll be traveling to South Dakota this summer to take on the title role. He joins Lori Walsh on In the Moment to discuss why the character has fascinated audiences over the years and shares his dreams for future Shakespeare productions.

Othello runs June 16 – 19 at Vermillion's Prentis Park. Attendance is free.
