This Week in SD History: Housing Authority sets price for Governor's House

This interview is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

On April 18, 2011, The South Dakota Housing Development Authority issues a press release saying the price of a “Governor’s House” would increase by 25-hundred dollars to a total of 35-thousand dollars.

The Housing Development Authority overseas the Governor’s House program whereby inmates construct affordable housing for families with limited incomes and assets.

Since its inception in 1996, more than 2,000 Governor's Houses have been sold in South Dakota. In 2011, the Governor’s house cost increased from 32.5 to 35 thousand dollars. Since then inflation has nearly doubled that price.
