The Carnegie Hero Fund is posthumously awarding a Carnegie Medal to 10-year-old Ricky Lee Sneve of Sioux Falls.

Last June, Ricky drowned in the Big Sioux River near Hudson. He died while saving his 5-year-old sister from the same fate.

The Carnegie Medal is given throughout the United States and Canada to those who enter extreme danger while saving or attempting to save the lives of others. Each of the awardees or their survivors will also receive a financial grant.

In 2013, 16-year-old Madison Leigh Wallace of Vermillion was awarded the Carnegie Medal posthumously. She was also attempting to save her younger sibling after falling into the Big Sioux River.
