High winds elevate fire danger in South Dakota

This interview is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

The fire danger in South Dakota reflects the current drought conditions across the state. Wind has stripped the soil of any moisture leaving the fuels open to what could turn into very large fires. Darren Clabo is the state fire meteorologist.

“The strong winds that we are seeing and the strong winds that we will see over the next couple of days will really carry the fire," said Clabo. "I do have a lot of concern today across western parts of the state and then tomorrow across central and eastern parts of the state with those with those strong winds.”

If you see a fire, call 911 quickly and be mindful of activities to diminish the chances of ignition.
