Sioux Falls city council approves property tax refund for certain citizens

City of Sioux Falls

This interview is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

A program to refund the municipal portion of property taxes was approved by the Sioux Falls City Council. In order to be eligible for this program, certain requirements must be met. Curt Soehl is a member of the Sioux Falls City Council and was prime sponsor of this ordinance.

“Those qualifications currently are 65 or older, own your own home and could be a town house or a condo, “said Soehl.” You could be disabled as labeled by social security.”

The maximum refund is $500 dollars and Sioux Falls residents must apply each year to remain eligible for the program.
