Carissa Vanderley is traveling to France next month to deliver a eulogy for Major George Sperbeck. He was an educator in South Dakota before the outbreak of World War I and died in October of 1918.
Vanderley is a social studies teacher at Chamberlain High School. She's researching this Silent Hero to be the voice of an American service member who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWI.
