Sarah Wakefield wrote one of the most well-known captivity narratives of the late 1800s. She wrote it just more than a year after being released from captivity.
South Dakota author Phyllis Cole-Dai has written a book of historical fiction based on Wakefield's life. It's called Beneath the Same Stars. It's a look at the deeper story of Wakefield's life enmeshed as it was in the events of the U.S./Dakota War of 1862.
The author is at the Siouxland Libraries downtown branch Monday to talk about the book. She's joined on In The Moment by librarian Amber Fick.
