SD Festival Of Books: Bill Heavey

Bill Heavey's first published article, about teaching children how to write poetry, was probably the high point of his career. He then descended into travel writing, profiles, and finally, first person narrative. He is an editor-at-large for Field & Stream and also writes the back page column, "A Sportsman's Life." His books include If You Didn't Bring Jerky, What Did I Just Eat? and It's Only Slow Food Until You Try to Eat It: Misadventures of a Suburban Hunter-Gatherer, which chronicles his attempts at closing the distance between himself and his food. His work has also appeared in Men's Journal, Outside, The Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times.
