Robert Wayne McPeek was born in Willow Lake in 1913.  McPeek enlisted in the Army in February, 1941, and saw action as part of Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa, in 1942.  In 1989, nine years after McPeek's death, his son Bob visited his childhood home in Waukegan, Illinois, where his father was the recruiting officer.  The owner of the house presented Bob with a hand bound book of poetry that his father wrote during the war.  It was found in the rafters when the house was renovated.  Bob has recorded a song based on his father's poetry and tells his story on Dakota Midday.  You can view Bob McPeek's video at www.untoldwarstories.com.
