Sioux Falls Development Foundation breaks ground on affordable housing development

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation broke ground Wednesday on six townhome units that will go to income-eligible buyers.

The units are being developed by Affordable Housing Solutions and will be available to buyers who are below 80% of the area median income. That's about $65,000 a year for a family of four.

Jeff Griffin, the president and CEO of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce , says affordable housing is important for families looking at settling in the Sioux Falls area.

“We all know Sioux Falls is growing radically and we need to make sure we’re addressing the issues associated with that growth," Griffin said. "Between education and neighborhood safety, I can’t think of a more stabilizing force in someone’s life than housing.”

The units will be located at 800 S. Sycamore Avenue in Eastern Sioux Falls. Two of the townhomes will feature two bedrooms and one bathroom. The other four townhomes offer additional options which could mean up to four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
