Sioux Falls announces road construction projects for 2022

Sioux Falls city leaders announced major street construction projects planned for this year, including the diverging diamond interchange at 1-29 and 41st street.

Construction on that interchange is scheduled to begin on March 28th and last until spring 2024. City engineer Brad Ludens, explained that specialized interchange will reduce rush hour backups for turning traffic.

“The main driver behind this project is the traffic congestion on 41st street," he said. "We got a high number of left turners that need to get from 41st street onto the interstate especially in the morning peak hour. The divergent diamond configuration is one the most efficient ways to move that left turning traffic onto the intersecting roadway.”

Ludens said all these projects are important to maintain the city's infrastructure. To see all the road construction projects scheduled for the Sioux Falls area you can visit the City of Sioux Falls Engineering website.
