Brett Bradfield Named USF President

After a seven month search the University of Sioux Falls announced Brett Bradfield as its 23rd president.

 

Bradfield has worked at the university for 16 years and in 2007 became the university’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Bradfield says he recognizes the challenges higher education institutes face but is hopeful the University of Sioux falls will stay strong into the future.

The scene was festive in the student commons. Students, faculty, staff and trustees mingled in anticipation of the announcement.

University of Sioux Falls professor Kevin Cole leads the interim course "American Slave Narratives."  There are few courses like it in the nation.  Content focuses on American slave narratives written and published between the 18th and early 20th centuries.  Cole visited with Dakota Midday host Lori Walsh to detail the course.

The University of Sioux Falls Theater Department presents "I Never Saw Another Butterfly".  Director Joe Obermueller discusses the play and how he teaches its meaning to students. Holocaust survivor Inge Auerbacher is on campus for the opening to talk with students about her experiences in Terezin.

The University of Sioux Falls and Augustana University are adding women’s swimming and diving teams.

High school senior Bekah Honner suddenly has lots of choices to consider as she starts her application process to swim on a college team.

“It is definitely a possibility staying in state since now Augustana and USF are starting teams, but I still have to weight my options,” says Honner.

Honner is a member of snow fox swimming club in Sioux Falls. She says it’s exciting to see the sport gaining attention.

Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls are adding swimming and diving as a varsity sport. Both schools are searching for swimmers as they look to start completing next fall.

The University of Sioux Falls has a swimming coach, but no pool or athletes yet. Josh Snyder is the athletic director at USF. He says when the city of Sioux Falls started building plans for the indoor aquatic center at Spellerberg Park, he had an idea.
