Governor Dennis Daugaard says he’s in the process of filling the vacant seat of late Representative Craig Tieszen.

It’s the governor’s duty to fill any seat left open by a legislator.

Tieszen and Representative Dan Dryden, who passed away last year, shared the same legislative district.

The state legislature lost an influential deliberative voice on Thanksgiving this year.

State Representative Craig Tieszen died during a kayaking incident, along with his brother-in-law.

They were in the Cook Islands, near New Zealand, attending Tieszen’s daughter’s wedding.

He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery on Monday.

State Representative Craig Tieszen was buried on Monday.
 
He died on Thanksgiving during a kayaking incident in the Cook Islands while attempting to save his brother in law.

A measure that allows gun owners to carry a concealed pistols without permits is moving through the statehouse...even after one version of it died.
 
The legislation just passed the state House of Representatives. It now moves to the State Senate where lawmakers tabled a similar measure.
