South Dakota U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says he plans to retire on December 31st. The Fort Pierre resident has worked in the U.S. Attorney's Office since 1995.

Seiler was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2015 to become South Dakota's top federal prosecutor.  He previously served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Tribal Liaison for the District of South Dakota.

Seiler says there won’t be a lot of downtime following retirement.

“I do plan to practice law and go into private practice in the Fort Pierre area,” Seiler says. “As well as, my wife jokingly tells me that I need to have three hobbies before I retire, so I’m working on those three at this point.”

Seiler says the US Attorney’s office generally changes with a change in presidential administrations. He says he’s working with his replacement to ensure a smooth transition.

A press release from Seiler's office says some of his major accomplishments include exposing fraud and public corruption on the State's Indian Reservations, hiring women and people of color as assistant U.S. attorneys, and starting a re-entry program to lower recidivism rates.

President Donald Trump has nominated Sioux Falls attorney Ron Parsons to replace Seiler. ?
