Stopping The Mountain Pine Beetle

Infestations of Mountain Pine Beetles have reached epidemic levels in the Black Hills.  Because the beetles only have one life cycle, the best way to stop them is to kill the next generation while they are still in the larvae stage inside of trees.  Tim Bradeen, Habitat Resource Biologist for South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, said this method has proven to be 80 to 90 percent effective in stopping the infestation.
