South Dakotan Represents at World Horse Show

A South Dakotan is making good at a world championship horse show.

The American Quarter Horse Association Novice World Championships are now underway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The competition includes horse confirmation, showmanship, and horsemanship.

Heather Basham and her mare "One Hot Molly" took 7th place in the Halter Class.   Basham says it takes hours of preparation to prepare the horses for show and years of daily work to ready the horse for national competition.

“You have to be able to trust your horse and have faith in your horse.  You can’t just hop on the day of the show you need to have a little time spent with your horse.   I ride every single day usually when I get off work.  Me and my daughter go down to the barn and usually spend two to three hours every day,” says Basham.

Basham says she started riding horses at five years old.  She is going on to compete in a few more events before the end of the weekend.
