Sioux Falls Approves New Cultural Plan

About a year ago, Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether appointed a 26-member steering committee to examine the role the arts play in the city and craft a new plan for raising their profile and importance in the cultural, educational and economic life of Sioux Falls. Earlier this week the mayor and city council approved the plan entitled Sioux Falls Imagined – A Cultural Plan for a Vibrant and Prosperous City. The new cultural plan is an update of the document written in 1999 that helped shape the Washington Pavilion.

The next step is the implementation of the plan. The Sioux Falls Arts Council has been directed to put it in action with the guidance of an advisory committee of community leaders who helped draft the plan.

Nan Baker, executive director of the Sioux Falls Arts Council, and board president Sandra Pay joined Dakota Midday and discussed the cultural plan and what it means for the future of the city.
