Seven Of 12 High School Playoff Games In Sioux Falls Metro Thursday

stadiumsusa.com

High School football playoff teams in Classes 11-Triple-A, 11-Double-A and 11-A have opening-round games scheduled for tonight.  That’s a total of 12 games—seven of them are within mere miles of each other in and around Sioux Falls.

If you live in the Sioux Falls area, and your kids tell you they’re bored on this Thursday—take them to any of seven high school playoff games going on today and tonight.  Four games highlight the schedule in 11-Triple-A, one is in 11-Double-A, and two more are set for Class 11-A.  Sioux Falls School District Athletic Director Mark Meile says schools within the city work with each other to keep everything organized.

“We’ve kind of established a certain code, or a certain checklist on how the game goes, as far as who plays at what time and all kinds of stuff.  We usually give whoever the top seed is, we give them first choice of their time, and we kinda go from there.”

Meile is in charge of today’s doubleheader at Howard Wood Field—the 4:30 Central Time game has Sioux Falls Washington hosting Rapid City Stevens.

“That does, you know, play a little bit into that—we have to be a little cognizant of and aware of how far they’re coming from as far as the start time of the first game.  For example, on Thursday, we’re playing the first game at 4:30—and they’re coming from Rapid City, and they lose an hour coming out here, so that’s actually 3:30 Rapid City Time.  So we do check with them on that—you know, sometimes, it is what it is—we wanted to start at a fairly reasonable time for that first game, so the second game doesn’t start too late as well.”

The second game at Howard Wood has Sioux Falls Lincoln playing Sioux Falls Roosevelt.  Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Tea Area and Harrisburg host first-round games in the area as well.  Winners go to semi-final games next weekend.
